The tool supports SRT (SubRip) and VTT (WebVTT) files — the two most common subtitle formats used by streaming platforms, video editors, and media players.

Translations go from English to French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch, and from those languages to English. To go from French to Spanish, for example, translate to English first. The tool uses Helsinki-NLP MarianMT models, one per language pair (about 110 MB each, downloaded once).

The first run downloads the model (about 110 MB), which takes 10–60 seconds depending on your connection. After that, a typical 90-minute movie with ~1,000 subtitle lines takes 1–4 minutes on a modern computer.

The MarianMT models produce solid translations for general dialogue. For professional-grade subtitles, we recommend reviewing the output. The models excel at everyday conversational language found in most films and series.

Yes, after the first model download the tool works without an internet connection. The model is cached in your browser and reused for all future translations of the same language pair.
