The right size for every Instagram format

Why resize before posting

Instagram crops and recompresses what does not fit its formats: a wide photo loses its sides, a tall one its top and bottom, and an oversized file gets compressed harder. Resizing first lets you choose the framing yourself and upload the size Instagram expects.

Portrait takes the most space in the feed

In the feed, a portrait post (4:5) fills more of the screen than a square or a landscape one, which is why most creators use it for photos. Stories and reels use the full vertical screen (9:16). Every format is listed in the tool with its exact size.

You choose the framing

Drag the photo and zoom to choose what stays in the frame: a face, a product, a title. The image is exported at the exact pixel size of the format, in your browser, without being uploaded.

Drop a photo on the page: it stays on your device.

Drag and zoom to choose the framing, then download the image at the right size.

Practical guides

Tips & guides

Keep text away from the edges

In stories, the top and bottom of the screen are covered by the profile bar and the reply field: keep text and faces in the middle.

For a carousel, use the same format for every slide: Instagram crops them all to the first one's proportions.

Tip

Your photos stay private

The resizing happens in your browser: your photos are never uploaded.

Nothing is kept once you close the page.
